Marlys Hallstrom Hack, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Lynden, Washington. She was 90 years old.

The daughter of Amanda Olson Hallstrom and Joel Hallstrom, Marlys was born on a small farm near Quamba, on May 5, 1933. An only child, Marlys spent her younger years helping her parents on the family farm. Farm life and her church community were central to her upbringing. Marlys married her high school sweetheart, Arthur John Hack, Jr. on Dec. 5, 1953. Together, they had three children; Kevin, Joy and Bill.

Marlys was a Navy officer’s wife, with kids in tow, she accompanied her husband to duty stations across the United States, living in Rhode Island, Virginia, Florida, Texas, California, Washington State and Alaska. She was a devoted mother and excellent homemaker. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Navy, Marlys and family moved to Southeast Alaska, where they owned and operated the remote sportfishing lodge, Yes Bay Lodge. She later returned to Washington State where she spent her remaining years.

Marlys enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, was an avid reader and was a loyal Seattle Mariners baseball fan. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her deep and enduring love for her family, her canine friends and her delicious Swedish pancakes.

Marlys was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Hack and wife Deanne Hack of Ketchikan, Alaska; daughter, Joy Hack of Mount Vernon, Washington; son, William (Bill) Hack and wife, Diane Hack of Lynden, Washington; grandchildren: Arthur J. Hack, III, Nicole Hack, Amanda Hack, Jason Hack, Kendra Hack, Michaela Wills, Saylor Hack; and great-granddaughter, Stella Martinez.
