Dorcas Eleanor Dunmire, 78, died on Aug. 9, 2019, in Ketchikan.
She was born Dorcas Eleanor Wesley on Sept. 15, 1940, in Metlakatla.
She attended school in Metlakatla and graduated from Mount Edgecumbe High School in 1959. She furthered her education at Haskell College in Kansas.
She was married in Ketchikan.
In addition to spending 19 years in Ketchikan and Metlakatla, she resided in Port Angeles, Los Angeles and Kansas.
She worked as a “full-time mom, wife, aunty, grandmother and sister,” her family writes.
Mrs. Dunmire was a member of the Assembly of God. She was a member of the Metlakatla Indian Community.
She was involved in “cultural activities and holidays,” her family writes.
She enjoyed walking, beachcombing, picking seaweed, cooking, going on drives and crochet.
“She loved to laugh and joke,” her family writes. “Her motto was 'just be happy, enjoy life.'”
Mrs. Dunmire was preceded in death by her father, Walter Wesley Sr.; uncle, William Tait; brother, Anthony Wesley; husband, Nolan Lee Dunmire; mother, Ellen Wesley; and brothers Walter Jr. and Edward Wesley.
She is survived by her son, Perry Michael Fawcett of Ketchikan; daughter, Vickie Harman of Anchorage; brother, Henry Fawcett of Gresham, Oregon; son, Thomas Fawcett of Ketchikan; sisters, Margaret Myer of Yreka, California, Phyllis Jackson of Granite Falls, Washington, Mary Ann Yates of Anchorage, Carol Torrey of Anchorage, Beverly Roth of Orting, Washington, Barbara McVey of Pasco, Washington, Francis Tyrell of Anchorage, Cecile Wesley of Anchorage and Diane Wesley of Kenai; and her brothers, John Wesley and William Wesley of Anchorage.
