Karen Hanaman was born on November 10, 1960, and passed away after battling many health issues on January 22, 2023. She was born and grew up in Ketchikan, Alaska. She was the first girl in a family of 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls. She loved her family and always supported and helped them in any way she could.
Karen was a very hard worker and worked as a cook in many local Ketchikan restaurants. in 1987, Karen went to work for the Alaska Marine Highway. She eventually became chief cook on the Columbia and was highly regarded by both crew and passengers alike. She then went to work as a remote camp cook as part of a clean-up crew in Adak. Alaska for 2 years. For the last 19 years of her working career, she worked as a pull-tab dealer in charitable gaming for AK Indoor Sports. Her pull-tab sales generated tens of thousands of dollars for many non-profit organizations.
Karen enjoyed hiking and fishing. She was always there to help a family member or friend in need.
In 1994, Karen met the love of her life Julie Moeller, and they were together for the last 28 years.
Karen is survived by her loving partner Julie Moeller, her dad, Jim Hanaman, her brothers, Pat Selig, Mike Selig, Philip Hanaman, Kendall Hanaman, and David Singyke, her sisters Christine Barret, Melissa Newlun, and Melinda Scroggin, her nieces and nephews, Virginia, Gabriela, Alex, Brenan, Nicolas, Amy, Michelle, Kyle, Elizabeth, Melanie, Richelle, Valerie and Stephanie, and many great nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much!
She was preceded in death by her mom, Virginia Fox, her stepfather Milton Fox, and her father Robert Singyke, her brothers Greg Selig, Jeff Selig and Andrew Singyke.
Karen will be remembered for being a hard worker who had a very kind and generous spirit throughout her life. Her smile could light up a room, and that smile will be remembered always by all who knew and loved her.
