Obituary
Frederick O. Olsen Sr., 80, died Feb. 4, 2018, in Ketchikan.
He was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Kasaan. He attended Kasaan Grade School, Chemewa Indian School and Sheldon Jackson High School in Sitka, graduating on May 17, 1956.
Mr. Olsen worked as a carpenter and fisherman before retiring. He was a model boat builder.
He was baptized in the Presbyterian church, and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
Mr. Olsen was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Loyal Order of Moose, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Sons of Norway. He was a member of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes, and a shareholder in Sealaska Corp.
Mr.?Olsen was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Otiliius Olsen; five brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Opal L. Olsen of Des Moines, Washington; son, Frederick O. Olsen Jr. of Kasaan; daughters, Kristine (Michael) Mooney and Karla (Kenneth) Smith; grandchildren, Erika, Danielle, Madison, Kaarsten and Kallan; two great-grandsons, all of Salem, Oregon; sister, Inga Olsen of Ketchikan; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Bayview Cemetery, officiated by?Chaplain Margaret Adams.
Mr. Olsen’s remains will be interred at Bayview Cemetery.
