John Roscoe Steinberg, 76, died Dec. 29, 2019 in Ketchikan.
He was born May 21,1943, in Paonia, Colorado. As a child, he resided in Colorado, Texas, Alaska, and Masset, British Columbia.
He graduated from high school at Southwest Bible Institute in Waxahachie, Texas in 1960. In 1966, Mr. Steinberg graduated from Seattle Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology.
He was married on July 16, 1966 in St. Helens, Oregon.
Mr. Steinberg was an ordained bishop in the Church of God from 1967 to 2019. He pastored in Palmer from 1967 to 1970; in Kotzebue from 1970 to 1973; Metlakatla from 1973 to 1977; Kotzebue from 1977 to 1980; Craig from 1980 to 1987; Terrace, British Columbia from 1987 to 1989; Metlakatla from 1989 to 2001; Craig from 2001 to 2016.
He resided in Ketchikan after retiring form ministry in 2016.
Mr. Steinberg enjoyed ministering to people, playing music and singing, building churches and getting firewood.
Mr. Steinberg was preceded in death by his parents, George Kenneth and Charlene Steinberg; brother, Charles Steinberg; and sister, Elveda Chaloraft.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Steinberg; sons, John (Karen) Steinberg and David Steinberg; daughters, Bonnie (Robert) Steinberg, Rebecca Calapp and Deanna Taylor; brothers, Melvin (MaryLou) Steinberg and George (Heidi) Steinberg; sisters, Edith (Joe) Kyllingmark and Anna (Richard) Thomas; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
