Obituary

LaVerne Mears passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023 at the Ketchikan Pioneer Home.
LaVerne was born to Art and Laura (Ross) Rasmussen on October 28, 1930 in Price, Utah. She married Bob Nelson on June 1, 1947. To this marriage they had four daughters; Janet (Charlie) Philips, Raelynn (Bruce) Penoske, Barbara (Dirk) Richardson, and Michelle Nelson.
In 1972 LaVerne moved to Ketchikan from Utah. She married Ron Mears in Ketchikan in 1985.
She joined the Women of the Moose and held many offices. She also tirelessly volunteered for anything needed at the Moose Lodge.
LaVerne loved her trips South to visit family and friends and try her luck in Las Vegas. Above all she loved her family and time spent with them. She will be greatly missed by all.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gail Rasmussen, husbands Bob Nelson, Bill Richards and Ron Mears, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her four daughters, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Pat Rasmussen and one niece Rosa Gail.
