Ivy Mae (Smith) Gilmore, 65, died Dec. 18, 2023, peacefully at the Providence Transitional Care Center in Anchorage.

She was born on July 12, 1958, in Ketchikan.

She enjoyed playing French horn throughout her school years.

She resided in Ketchikan for most of her life, with a period of time residing on Prince of Wales Island from 1898 through 1995.

She was married in 1991 in Reno, Nevada, going to a Johnny Cash concert to celebrate.

She worked at the Klawock Sort Yard, and also volunteered as a teachers’ assistant for special education.

She enjoyed beachcombing, dancing, drawing, playing bingo, various group affiliations and meeting with friends at the Totem Bar.

“While Ivy enjoyed hunting for deer, camping was her favorite activity,” her family writes.

Ivy Gilmore was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Smith; brothers, Marshal Smith and Andy Smith; and father, Harold Smith.

She is survived by her sister, Emma Smith; brothers, Hal Smith, Wesley Smith and Martin Smith; daughter, Jane Smith; granddaughter, Ivy Smith; and grandson, Kenneth Tachell.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m., Jan. 27, 2024, at the ANB/ANS Hall, 429 Deermount St.
