Obituary

L. Jane Carr November 8, 1918 - August 23, 2016 Born Luella Jane Weber to Henry Goessler Weber and Luella Blackmore Wheeler in Duluth, Minnesota. She developed a love of nature early on spending summers canoeing and swimming in the lakes region of Minnesota. Graduated with a BS in lab technology from the University of Minnesota; the world was hers to explore with this sought-after degree. She worked in Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana and also spent some time at the Pasteur Institute in France. Joined the Navy Waves during WW11 climbing the ranks to Lieutenant. One of her last work adventures took her to Anchorage, Alaska where, on temporary assignment to Ketchikan, she met Dr. Ralph W. Carr. The Tuesday before she was to return home, Dr. Carr asked for her hand and they were married on Thursday! Thus began a whole new phase of life including an instant family of five. Two more children together brought the total to seven. The years following, she would become PTA President, Girl Scout Council member, ballet costume creator, household manager and loving Mother to all. Her motto: ''My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy''. A move to Missouri many years later brought a yearning to get back to work. A short stint at a jewelry store, she then returned to the lab at the Veterans Hospital. She and Dr. Carr retired to Newport, Oregon where she continued to volunteer with various organizations including Ombudsman to regional senior care facilities and oyster research at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Her love of travel surfaced again after Ralph passed in 1990. She hit the road and never stopped, visiting almost every continent and making friends all along the way. Her last years were spent in Issaquah, Washington close to four daughters. A heartfelt thank you to the Pine Lake Adult Family Home for their tender care given her in her final days. She is survived by her seven children, Betsy Carr, San Francisco, Ca.; Alansa Bates (Leonard) Seattle, Wa.; Bruce Carr, Juneau, Ak.; Susan Carr, Ketchikan, Ak.; Patti Felton (Roger) Sammamish, Wa.; Barbara Hoiland (John) Seattle, Wa., and Jennifer Tao (Yuki) Sammamish, Wa., eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A celebration of her life open house will be held October 8th, 2-4pm at Our Place at Providence Point in Issaquah, Washington.
