Wilma Louise Mayo, 76, died April 5, 2022, in Ketchikan.
She was born Wilma Wallace on May 25, 1945, in Hydaburg.
She attended Mt. Edgecumbe High School, graduating in 1963. She then attended a post-secondary business college in San Jose, California, graduating in 1967.
She was married on Aug. 11, 1972, in Ketchikan.
Mrs. Mayo was employed as a clerk of court with the Alaska Court System. She also was a Tupperware representative.
She was a tribal citizen of the Ketchikan Indian Community, a shareholder of Haida Corp. and Sealaska, and a member of the Camp 14 Alaska Native Sisterhood.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and The Salvation Army.
“Wilma’s heritage and culture were important to her and she proudly danced with a family Haida dance group when younger,” her family writes. “She was the hostess with the mostest, inviting many guest to her table.”
Mrs. Mayo enjoyed baking, and was known for her courthouse sugar cookies. She also enjoyed framing her favorite pictures; shopping; genealogy; riding in a favorite 1955 turquoise Ford truck; music — especially praise and worship music; attending church and sharing her faith.
“She was impeccably dressed and a gal of fashion,” her family writes. “... She enjoyed road trips and attending concerts and NASCAR races with her husband.”
Mrs. Mayo was preceded in death by her father, William Wallace Sr.; mother, Dorothy Wallace; brother, William Wallace Jr.; brother, Michael Wallace; sister, Joan Quinoveva; brother, Ted Wallace; and sister, Marilyn Nix.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Mayo; son, Leif Edwardsen; daughter, Sherrie Edwardsen; son, Steven Mayo; grandchildren, Billy Edwardsen, Monica Wiehl, Michelle McCoy, Timothy McCoy, Ravin Chafin, Jade Corbett, Olivia Leavitt, Ayla Mayo and Charlie “Etook” Quinn Edwardsen; and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Brindac, Ocean Wiehl, Violet Brickle, Lawrence “Jett” McCoy IV, Cameron Jordan and Jaaxon Jordan.
A visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at The Salvation Army, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at The Salvation Army, officiated by Major Loni Upshaw.
Mrs. Mayo’s remains will be interred at the Bayview Cemetery Mausoleum.
