Obituary

Janet passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 after a brief illness. Her daughter Kathleen, son Tom, son-in law John, and daughter-in-law Peggy were by her side. Janet led a full and fulfilling 102 years. She was born and raised in Wenatchee, Washington. After attending the University of Washington, she moved to Ketchikan, Alaska to marry her husband Ed. They were married 65 years. She and Ed raised 5 children in Ketchikan and were important participants in Alaska business, politics, and education. In 1975, Janet and Ed retired to Scottsdale. Janet became a Republican precinct chairwoman, remained involved in Arizona politics for many years, and was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Janet and Ed moved to Wickenburg in the 1990s and lived there 8 years before returning to Scottsdale in 2000 at which time they moved into the Pueblo Norte retirement community and happily remained there until they passed. Those who knew Janet loved her quick wit, infectious laugh, and fun loving spirit. She always spoke her mind. She was a leader and the center of most endeavors in which she participated. She was tough, persistent, and determined. Janet overcame many personal tragedies in her life including the loss of Ed and 3 of her children. Her family miss her terribly but are thankful for having her with them for 102 years. In addition to Kathleen and Tom, Janet is survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A life well lived.
