Obituary
We are sad to announce that Frank Joseph Hasibar, age 80, died in his sleep the morning of February 22, 2022. He was born in Ketchikan, Alaska, August 11, 1941, to Emil and Judy (Grotzke) Hasibar. He attended Holy Name School and Ketchikan High School. Frank was a self-employed carpenter for over 30 years. His fine finish work graces many local homes and businesses.
During his teenage years and into his early twenties, Frank worked on a variety of fishing boats: Vic Klose’s troller Betty, Dick Sanchez’ troller Alamarie, the packer Atlas, and Harold Peratrovich’s seiner Libby 2. In his later years he helped friend Al Babboni on his troller, the ChrisTeJoMarie. Frank also spent several years at Tongass Trading Company. He worked for six years at the Ketchikan Pulp Company where he learned the carpentry trade. In January 1970 he married Grace Bartholome. Together they raised three children and built a house and a home. In his last years, he was blessed to welcome two beautiful grandchildren into his life.
Few people enjoyed life as Frank did. To him, every day was a blessing (well, sometimes he complained about rainy days). He had a great love for the outdoors, whether clearing brush, chopping wood, gardening, berry picking, boating, or fishing-- especially fishing! He always loved a bonfire, especially with his family gathered around. When he couldn’t be outdoors, he enjoyed an endless variety of projects in his shop. He looked forward to card games with friends and family, and often had a puzzle he was working on, laid out on the dining table. He considered Alaska heaven on earth and seldom cared to travel anywhere else. Frank was content to live in the present, not worrying about the future, or even the next day. He was a good man, tolerant and accepting of others, and rarely had a bad word to say about anyone.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grace (Bartholome) Hasibar, as well as his children: daughter Joan Hasibar, son Joe and daughter in law Autumn (Dale) Hasibar, their children Josephine Hasibar and Jackson Hasibar, daughter Lea Hasibar and son in law Casey Stokes, and step granddaughter Sailor Stokes-Hogben.
