John Thomas William Alguire, 55, died May 21, 2017, in Ketchikan.

He was born Aug. 14, 1961, in Ketchikan. He graduated from Ketchikan High School with the Class of 1979.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October, 1979, and served on a sub tender out of San Diego, and then on an LHA base in the Philippines through 1983.

Mr. Alguire then worked for Alaska Airlines until 1989, when he joined the Ketchikan Police Department. He retired from the police department in 2010, and went on to work for Linxx Global Solutions, contracted by the U.S. Coast Guard, and was working as head of security until his passing.

Mr. Alguire was a member of the Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #162.

"He had a love for life, all his kids," his family writes. "And if that wasn’t enough, he joined Eagles Aerie #162 and his family grew even stronger. He started out as a member of a wonderful organization and went through the chairs and became past worthy president (and) recently state of Alaska president."

He recently joined the ACS Pool League and was captain of the Eagles pool team.

He was a member of the American Legion.

"John was truly one of a kind," his family writes. "He treated everyone with respect. Everyone had a nice word to say about him. It was apparent when people he had encountered would come up and shake his hand and say, ‘Officer Alguire.’ ... He believed in people helping people."

Mr. Alguire helped his wife refurbish furniture.

Mr. Alguire was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyle and Emilie Alguire, and Ed and Jean Meader; and son, Cooper William Alguire.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Alguire of Ketchikan; sons, Jacob (Chelsea) Alguire of Ketchikan, Coleman (Lee) Alguire of California, Tyler Barrett of Brazil, Jordan Alguire of Ketchikan, Jeremy Barrett of Ketchikan, and Joshua, Matthew and Gerald Alguire of Ketchikan; daughter, Lillian Fawcett of Ketchikan; parents, James and Gail Alguire of Ketchikan; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Mary Jo Brendible of Metlakatla; stepdad, Colby Williams of Metlakatla; brothers, James (Ellen) Alguire of California, Jeff Alguire of North Carolina, and Bob (Krista) Alguire of Ketchikan; sister, Beth (Glen) Fazakerley of Ketchikan; brother-in-law, Thomas (Colleen) Brendible of Metlakatla; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Jupiter) Mata of Ketchikan, Christine Bean of Kake, Christina McGilton of Ketchikan, Christie (Casey) Hailey of Washington, and Shawnee Brendible of Metlakatla.

A viewing will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the First Assembly of God. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. May 31, 2017, at the First Assembly of God, officiated by the Rev. Teri Erbele. A graveside service will follow at Bayview Cemetery, followed then by a reception at the Sunny Point Conference Center.
