Wyatt Wesley Hasty

Born: April 10th, 2002

Died: March 12th, 2018

Obituary

Wyatt Wesley Hasty, 15, died March 12, 2018, in Scottsdale, Arizona, while on spring break from high school.

Wyatt was born April 10, 2002, in Ketchikan. His parents are Amy Adams of Ketchikan and Jason Hasty of Scottsdale.

He attended Holy Name Preschool in Ketchikan, Pueblo Elementary School, Mohave Middle School and Coronado High School in Scottsdale, and Ketchikan High School.

Born in Ketchikan, he lived here until 2006 before moving to Scottsdale. He returned to Ketchikan in June of 2017.

Wyatt played almost every sport at one time or another, according to his family, but he loved basketball the most and played with the Ketchikan Dribblers League this year.

He also played many instruments, but favored the guitar. He enjoyed hiking, camping, the Youth Shotgun League, video games online with his friends, hanging out with his friends, fishing, boating, watching movies, traveling, spending time with his family, and caring for his cat, Mario, and dog, Lucky Ann.

Wyatt earned straight A’s in school and looked forward to a future that included college, his family writes. He already was “mildly bilingual” as a result of being in a Spanish Language Immersion Program from first through ninth grade in the Scottsdale Unified School District. During his attendance there, he was taught, spoke and wrote in Spanish for half of each day. In the ninth grade at Coronado High School, he completed Spanish III Honors.

Wyatt’s experience with Spanish helped his family as he acted as a translator in 2016 when they traveled to Spain for two months to visit his brother, who was stationed in Rota with the U.S. Navy.

During that trip to Spain, Wyatt spent much of his time on the beautiful beaches, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and touring cathedrals, museums, and iconic historical landmarks.

The family also visited Rome for a week and toured the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel and the Coliseum. Wyatt strolled the ancient roads by Circus Maximus and “ate the best pizza in the world,” his family writes.

He also spent a day on The Rock of Gibraltar eating fish and chips, looking at monkeys, and touring caves.

Another day he spent exploring Morocco, Africa, where he rode camels on the beach, drank Moroccan Mint Tea, and ate in a cafe that had been featured in a 2015 James Bond movie.

“Wyatt was a joy and a blessing,” his family writes. “He changed everyone for the better the minute they met him. His tragic passing will forever change the world.”

Wyatt was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Wes Davidson; great-uncle, Rod Davidson, and great-grandparents, Quincy and Bev Adams.

He is survived by his parents; his siblings, Taj Hasty of Virginia, Jacob Hasty of Ketchikan, Eli Adams of Seattle, and Spencer Hasty of Scottsdale; a niece and Taj’s daughter, Lillian Hasty; great-grandmother, Patricia Davidson of Ketchikan; grandparents, Bob and Lynda Adams, and Bill and Vicki Hasty, all of Ketchikan; great-aunt, Nancy Walch, and great-uncle and aunt, Dick and Virginia Adams of Washington state; uncle, Mark (Britta) Adams and their daughters Anneka and Alayna of Ketchikan; uncle, Beau Hasty and Beau’s son, Chayce; uncle, John (Lisa) Hasty and their children, Charlene, Ashley, Rex, Rily and Roman Hasty; and aunt, Amy (Jeremy) Guinn and their children Jayden, Helena and Isaiah, all of Ketchikan.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at First Assembly of God, 3225 Fairview Ave. Pastor Gary Souza will officiate. Burial will be at Bayview Cemetery.
