James "Jim" Maurice Clay, 75, died July 9, 2018, in Ketchikan.
He was born Oct. 3, 1942, in Albany, Oregon.
He was a high school graduate, and attended college. He served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, and received an honorable discharge.
He resided in Albany; Portland, Oregon; and Scappoose, Oregon, until1965, when he moved to Ketchikan.
Mr. Clay was married on May 15,1965, at First Lutheran Church in Ketchikan.
He was employed by the Alaska Marine Highway System as an AB Seaman. He had a 3rd mate license, and was a member of the Masters, Mates & Pilots.
Mr. Clay was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, with the Rev. Bob Schultz. Mr. Clay enjoyed reading the Bible, and participated in a Bible study at Calvary Bible Church.
He enjoyed talking, and was an accomplished woodworker.
He participated in Friends of Bill W. AA.
Mr. Clay was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Florence Clay; and siblings, Glenna Parker and Jack Clay.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Clay of Ketchikan; sister, Janna Ward of Tigard, Oregon; son, Jim (Ginny) Clay of Ketchikan; daughter, Celeste Clay of Ketchikan; daughter, Christi
(Brandt) Hoffman of Coos Bay, Oregon; grandchildren, Jessica Rusher, Glen Clay, Ian Clay and Bethany Clay of Ketchikan, and Brandt Hoffman II and James Hoffman of Coos Bay; and great-grandchildren, Paige, Aiden and Tony of Ketchikan.
A memorial service will be at 11a.m. Saturday, July 21, at St. John's Episcopal Church, officiated by the Rev: Barbara Massenburg.
