Vicente C. Salita Jr., 63, died Dec. 6, 2023, in Ketchikan.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1960, in Manila, Philippines.

He served six years in the U.S. Army, from 1978 through 1985, attaining the rank of sergeant. During his service, he resided in Hudson, Florida, in 1978, and traveled to and served in California, Virgina, New Zealand and Antarctica.

He attended the U.S. Army School in 1979. In 1994, he attended a flight training school at the Davao International Airport in the Philippines.

In 1985, Mr. Salita moved to Ketchikan, and was employed at the Ketchikan Pulp Mill from 1986 to 1992. He then was employed by the Alaska Marine Highway System from 1992 to 2015.

Mr. Salita was married on Feb. 11, 1995, in Davao City, Philippines.

He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Mr. Salita was "passionate about history, a patriot for America and his service," his family writes.

He was interested in U.S. tanks, planes and helicopters, and enjoyed video games and Star Wars.

Mr. Salita is survived by his wife, Elvie Salita of Ketchikan; sons, Gabriel Salita of Ketchikan and Michael Salita of Ketchikan; and brothers, Victor Salita of Seattle, and Vinny Salita of Spring Hill, Florida.
